In my earlier posts I had mentioned about the free course on Artificial Intelligence (AI) by University of Helsinki, the advanced course on AI called Building AI, and the discussions that took place on Facebook because of a simple (?) statement that I put here titled AI – Ethics = Anarchy.

University of Helsinki is now having an online event on The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence. This webinar will be on 27 November 2020 at 13:00-15:00 (Helsinki EET). The event is organised by the University of Helsinki and the Finnish Centre for Artificial Intelligence FCAI in collaboration with the City of Helsinki. Details of this webinar can be found here. This event is free and will be in English.

Helsinki and Amsterdam are the first cities to launch AI registers explaining how they use algorithms. You can read about this in the Helsinki Artificial Intelligence Register at http://ai.hel.fi/ and in the Amsterdam Algorithm Register at https://algoritmeregister.amsterdam.nl/ . Following in the footsteps of Amsterdam and Helsinki, French city Nantes has also launched its own algorithm register. This enables tracking of the public use of algorithms, ensuring social responsibility and transparency in the fast-growing field of artificial intelligence.

All this is leading to the new open online course titled Ethics of AI by the University of Helsinki.

These three free, open and online courses by University of Helsinki are Finland’s gift to the world. Its important to put technology into perspective and see its side effects and that is what we hope to learn, and more, in the new course on Ethics of AI.
